Chris Mills Artworks
Selected works by internationally published artist Chris Mills.
"I want my abstract paintings to exist on a number of levels. Like precious stratas of stone, not precious in the manner of polished jewels of glistening sheen but of depths suggesting time, wear, and erosion. Echoes of the land in microcosmic, self-contained, planar worlds.
In two dimensions lay secrets extending beneath. Impenetrable codes just on the edge of our perception. Strange pulses and rythyms. Music for the eyes.
Is any of this new? Academically, no, but each new painting is a new road for me. To paint is a journey, and abstraction offers endless new discoveries of form and colour, and more fundamentally of the self. Is there some kind of plan in the image making? Of course. But there is always the fascination of the accident and the random that shapes a painting as our lives are shaped as human beings.
Empirical explantions and finite narratives are of little use. Once done, the painting simply is.
To me, abstraction is a labour of love, something that begins within but emerges as its own reality".
